Starting out
Booking commits you to one appointment and nothing else. The form gets read before you are seen, consent comes after the findings rather than with the booking, and you leave with one thing to start rather than a schedule.
Before you arrive
The opening appointment is mostly questions and testing rather than treatment, and that order is deliberate rather than a scheduling accident. The history decides which tests are worth running, and the tests decide what gets proposed, so doing it the other way round would be working backwards from an answer.
Most of what people worry about beforehand turns out to be practical rather than clinical. What to wear, which documents are wanted, whether a referral is needed, how long the whole thing takes. Those are all answered on the pages below rather than discovered awkwardly at the desk.
What you should leave with is a plain explanation and one thing to begin, not a printed schedule covering the next three months. All of that is covered in more detail under the first visit, visit numbers and the opening fee.
From booking to being seen
Phone or online, with no referral needed and no commitment past that one appointment.
Health history and current complaint, done at home where possible so the visit is spent examining.
The red flag questions and the history that decide what is appropriate and what is not.
Something to start, guidance for the days between, and the point at which this gets measured again.

The practical questions people ring with before booking a first appointment.
Knew what the first appointment would involve before I arrived, which took most of the nerves out of it.
The form took five minutes at home and the appointment was spent on the actual problem instead.
Nobody asked me to commit to anything beyond the one visit I had booked, which I appreciated.
Easy to get started. The only snag was finding somewhere to park on a weekday morning.

Fill the form in advance if you can, arrive a few minutes early, and leave every decision beyond that appointment until there is something to base it on.
General information, not medical advice. What applies to you is decided at the examination.
